Thus, patients may need from two to eight treatment sessions to achieve the best removal results.

Once hair follicles have been destroyed, they generally do not regenerate in most parts of the body. Women’s faces represent a distinct exception as hormonal activity can spur regeneration of facial hair follicles. On other parts of the body, patients may experience new hair growth months or years later due to surviving hair follicles. However, such new hair growth tends to be sparse. In short, even if laser hair removal does not prove permanent for all patients, it is definitely a more effective and long-lasting solution than traditional hair removal methods.

How Long Does a Laser Hair Removal Session Take and How Many Will I Need?

The duration of a laser hair removal treatment session depends on the size of the treatment area and on how much hair is in the area. A small treatment area, such as above the lips, typically takes less than 10 minutes. Larger areas, such as legs and the back, might take up to an hour.

The hirsuteness (hairiness) of a given area can generally indicate how many treatment sessions might be needed.
