Reverse Aging with Forever Young® BBL
Sun exposure, hormonal changes, pollutants, and other factors stress our skin constantly, causing short- and long-term damage and visible signs of aging. Given the abundant sunshine in our southwest Florida area, our Naples medical spa clients frequently ask us about skincare treatments that are scientifically proven to rejuvenate skin and repair skin damage. In response, we often tell them about Forever Young® BroadBand Light® (BBL) therapy, which is backed by studies proving it to be effective at rejuvenating and repairing skin cells at the molecular level.
What is Forever Young® BBL?
Forever Young’s® BBL therapy uses non-invasive light waves to condition and rejuvenate skin anywhere on the body. Also referred to as “photofacials” and “photo rejuvenation,” BBL works below the skin’s surface to alter the gene expression of old skin cells in a way that makes them act like young skin cells. The resultant cellular changes make skin look more youthful, firmer, and evenly toned and textured. BBL’s photothermal energy also works to decrease the appearance of blemishes, addresses other pigmentation issues, and stimulates the production of skin-enhancing collagen and elastin, further diminishing the look of wrinkles, fine lines, and other skin imperfections. On average, studies suggest that patients treated with Forever Young’s® BBL therapy can look 10 years younger than their true age.
What Does Forever Young® BBL Treat?
We like to say that Forever Young’s® BBL therapy is the perfect treatment for anyone who would like to look “forever young” with firmer, healthier, and well-toned skin. Of course, we also tout its effectiveness at treating numerous skin concerns, including:
- Acne and Acne Scarring
- Sun Damage
- Enlarged Pores
- Dilated Blood Vessels
- Irregular Texture
- Birthmarks
- Age Spots
- Rosacea
- Sunspots
- Scarring
- Fine Lines
- Sagging Skin
- Freckles
What is the Science Behind Forever Young® BBL?
Two different studies have concluded that FDA-approved BBL therapy distinctly transforms the gene expression patterns of aging skin cells to make them act like younger cells. As noted by Stanford University report, “our study suggests that ‘rejuvenation’ at a molecular level has also occurred, with a number of genes linked to the aging process being altered in expression after treatment to more closely resemble young skin.”
Gene expression is the process by which cells convert DNA instructions into functional cellular products and activity. For example, DNA has instructions for regulating the cellular production of proteins and other molecules. These instructions can serve as an on/off switch to determine production activity, and as a control switch to regulate how much of the protein or other molecules are needed.
While researchers don’t understand the mechanics of action, the alteration of gene expression caused by BBL makes the cells take on youthful characteristics. Combined with the surface-level skin corrections provided by BBL’s® photothermal energy, Forever Young® helps improve skin tone and boost skin volume through increased collagen and elastin production.
What to Expect During Your Forever Young® BBL Treatment
Tru Glō Medspa clients experience improvements in skin tone, texture, elasticity, and its overall youthful look with just one 15-minute Forever Young® BBL session. To optimize results, we recommend that our clients undergo three to five treatments over a six-to-24-week period, depending on their skin condition.
Forever Young® BBL is non-invasive and typically only generates a light stinging sensation in our clients that can be tolerated without needing topical anesthetics. No downtime is necessary after the procedure, and other than avoiding sun exposure and wearing sunscreen, there are no aftercare requirements. The skin of most clients looks and feels like they’ve experienced a mild sunburn for a few days, and certain dark spots may become more prominent for a week or two until they fall off.
